Reproduction and Speed of Population Growth in the Presence of Migration: A District Level Study in Three Border States of North-East India

In India, due to lack of age specific death and birth data direct calculation of Net Reproduction Rate is not possible, particularly at district level. Also, the conventional Net Reproduction Rate and the intrinsic growth rate measures are not suitable for populations affected by migration. The present study attempts to recapture the scenario of impact of migration on the Net Reproduction Rates in the districts of three Border States of North-East India, viz., Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura by estimating the Net Reproduction Rates before and after allowance for migration. The study also attempts to assess the impact of migration on the speed of the population growth of these districts by estimating the intrinsic growth rates in presence of migration.
